Abstract: This study on the epidemiology and control practices of malaria in Isiala Mbano L.G.A of Imo State was carried out between April and September, 2024. The sample size for the study was made up of 290 subjects, which included adults and children from three randomly selected communities. Blood samples were collected and transferred to the laboratory for microscopic examination with the help of a Laboratory Scientist. A well constructed questionnaire was used to obtain information on KAP of malaria. Data were presented using frequency and percentage table. The result revealed overall prevalence of malaria 223(76.9%); Oka community had the highest (82.2%) prevalence. Females 150(67.3%) had highest prevalence as well as age range of 41-50 years 67(30.0%). Knowledge of malaria epidemiology revealed that all the respondents (100.0%) were aware of malaria, have been infected before, and know the symptoms of malaria. 184(63.4%) regularly get sick of malaria, 129(44.5%) and 93(32.1%) attributed malaria symptom to muscle aches/tiredness and fever, respectively. The entire respondents were aware of the causes of malaria, mosquito bite 205(70.7%) recorded the highest cause of malaria followed by dirty environment 63(21.7%). It was further revealed that all the respondents treat malaria; 171(58.9%) go on self-prescription, 62(21.4%) use local herbs while 42(14.5%) use doctor’s prescriptions. 275(94.8%) take anti-malaria drugs, 108(39.3%) take it anytime they feel feverish. It also indicated that 100% of the respondents were aware of ITNs as a means of control of mosquito, only 74(40.4%) use ITNs, 49(66.2%) hang it over the bed, 25(33.8%) on doors and windows, 55(74.3%) use it always. The high rate of prevalence could be attributed to the wrong perceptions of the respondents on the proper prevention and control measures of malaria. An intensified effort by the health workers should be geared towards sensitizing the people on the causes of malaria disease and its possible preventive measures.
